Muscat, Oman hosted the third event of the Extreme Sailing Series on the 1st – 5th February 2010. The Sultanate of Oman, home to the legend of Sindbad, is known throughout the Gulf for its spectacular beauty and hospitality. Each event consists of five days of racing, combining the established format of short, easy to understand races, a media day, VIP sailing days and special events.

The two Oman Sail boats that finished in 1st and 3rd place in the European 2009 iShares Cup, returned to the Extreme Sailing Series Asia this time with two Omani recruits from the Oman Sail Academy on board as part of the crew.

Design Depot were commissioned to present visuals for the Muscat Extreme Beach event with the main focus of getting everybody involved from children to families and support their country in the race for victory!

The list of jobs to do was as long as the course itself and we were against the clock. This included; Bill Boards, Posters, Flyers, Event Promotion, Merchandise, Adverts, Cinema and Radio Promotion, Website Banners, Signage, VIP invites and large format display panels. Once it had all been produced in English – the vast majority was produced in Arabic as well here in the UK and then sent to Oman for printing.

The series concluded with the home team Masirah lifting the inaugural championship trophy. Three days of racing in front of a VIP setup, was followed by an ‘Extreme Beach Event’ with over 2,000 people gathering at Al Hail beach for a five-a-side football competition, volleyball matches, the Muscat round of the Red Bull Street Style competition as well as watching the racing, which took place in front of government statesmen and royalty for the Omani weekend.

An all round extreme event with fantastic results for both king and country and we were very proud to be involved.
